Good news from Dave Edney, our Melbourne based brewer, is that the James Squire microbrewery at the Portland Hotel is about to produce its 200th specialty brew in August, and we expect this celebratory beer will hit the taps in the first week of September!.
The Portland Hotel was the first outlet to establish a James Squire Brewhouse, way back in 2001. The foundation James Squire Brewhouse beers, the Craic Irish Stout, the Highwayman and a flavoursome red ale & a cloudy pale ale known simply as Portland Pale, were all established in those first years and have survived the test of time, still being pulled direct from the microbrewery tanks to the bar today. Of course many other seasonal offerings have also been created in the Portland Brewhouse over the years, and Dave has something very special in planning for this important occasion. If you are a Melbourne local, just visiting on business, or a tourist during September, we would encourage you to get along to the Portland Hotel on the corner of Russell and Little Collins Streets in the Melbourne CBD to try this special brew & join in the celebrations.
As mentioned in our last newsletter, those Mad Brewers among us led by Peter Merrington have been hard at it working to produce a limited tap only release of Mad Brewer’s Noir Stout. This 7% alcohol mysterious black beauty will be available from each of our James Squire Brewbars and also from a few selected outlets in each state from late August.
Cheers for now,
Tony Jones
