Congratulations to the winner of The West Weekend Master Class competition! Not surprisingly our lucky winner Hamish had no problem rustling up nine mates to come join him and Brewmaster Dr Chuck Hahn for a five course beer degustation in their own private section of The Generous Squire.
Head Chef Keith Lankester created a special menu with each course designed to complement each of the James Squire beers. Highlights included prawn & chilli pizza with our award winning James Squire Pilsener and finishing off the night with a smooth James Squire Porter matched with fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate.
During the course of the dinner Hamish mentioned that some of the guys that he brought along all sail on a yacht called ‘Olfrygt’ which is Danish slang meaning ‘fear of running out of beer’.
Apparently one crew member Terry is the nominated brew master and supplies the guys with his home-brewed ale after a great day of sailing. Terry brews what we call “Bilge Bitter”, “Diesel Dry” or “Sailors Swill” for the crew’s hydration.
After hearing Chuck’s explanation of the art of brewing beer during the master class, let’s hope Terry embraces the coaching generously provided and improves his home brew to the point where the crew can all start to enjoy it!
