James Squire Hop Thief Ale – “It’s Back – Hop Thief Winter Release”

Posted on: 12 June, 2009 by James Squire

hopthiefpack1Australian beer lovers will again be able to tantalise their tastebuds by trying the latest winter limited release from craft brewer James Squire.  Hop Thief Ale is a smooth, deep amber brew featuring a unique blend of Australian hops to create an enticing floral bouquet.

Only 11,000 cases will be available for purchase, so beer lovers should embrace the cooler months and take this opportunity to taste great Australian craft beer at its best.  Hop Thief Ale uses the late addition of hops to add a depth of aroma, flavour and complexity to the beer, which allows for a pronounced floral aroma.

James Squire Hop Thief Ale will be available nationally in all good bottle shops from 8 June 2009  and available to purchase on line by the case only while stocks last from the  Micro Beer Club website www.MICROBEERCLUB.com.au or phone 1300 565 321.

  2. Teresa says:

Why is the hop thief ale available everywhere else except Queensland we want it up here as well

  3. Rob says:

Why does QLD miss out on the hop thief tap action?
Is it because we don’t really have a cold winter like the rest of you ?

I’d love to see this beer on tap in Brisbane.

  4. Peter Schweinsberg says:

Why can’t I order Hop Thief through Kemenys like we have done in the past ?
They have a very efficient mail order service.
I do not feel like driving to one of these listed NSW pubs.
From 2 to 5 hour round trip for each.

Alternatively why don’t you get a licence to ship it out by the case to end drinkers.

Kemenys was great, one phone call of about 5 to 10 minutes and a case to myself and one to each of my sons, all on my credit card.
Two days later we and our wives were all sampling it at our homes.

Hoping you have a answer to this problem.
If you don’t then it looks like Boags or Cascade or one one the others.

    Oh, by the way.
I don’t know where to find a stockist of the full range of James Squire beers.
I remember that Dan Murphy acca Woolies once claimed to be a stockist,
but every time I went there they never had the full range, only a couple of types.

  5. Don Kay says:

Why is Queensland left off the list
Searched high and low for 20 10 couldnt get it
    why are we missing out

    don kay

I work at Dan Murphy’s in Mittagong where we have always have the 5 core Squires beers plus whatever the current limited release is. At the moment I’m having a Hop Thief.

To the best of my knowledge every Dan’s store should be the same.

    Come check it out,

    - Jeremy

Next trip back , found a lonely lookin, single carton .Promptly snaffled it and being greatly enjoyed right now!
Please keep it coming I say

  12. Scott says:

I have always enjoyed the hop thief release and still do however this year seemed the lack the ‘bite’ I expected. I’d like to taste more hops next time! Its still a great drop.

  13. Neil says:

You could get 20 10 at Grand Central Bottle shop and the Platform Bar Don Kay.

P.S Grand Central Platform Bar is the Bomb!!!

  14. Jason says:

Oh god, having this beer right now for the first time and it is one of the best beers I’ve tasted. Will be going to the northern star in Newcastle sometime this week to grab it on tap.

  15. Darren Culpan says:

    Hi guys,

Just polished off a growler of fresh Brewdog Punk IPAfrom Warners @the Bay & the aroma & taste was like a souped up version of your splendid 2009 Hop Thief. Could you please, please bring that monster of a beer back??? Possibly fulltime??? Are there any plans it might make a comeback??? I predict it would almost outsell the Little Creatures & Fat Yaks of this world.

    Cheers,
    Darren
